Almost 10, 000 government doctors in Gujrat began an indefinite strike on Monday for their unanswered demands that included regularization of ad-hoc services, affecting medical services in state-run hospitals and PHCs. Another demand of the doctors is to put a curb on contractual appointments.

The President of the Gujrat Medical Teacher’s Association said that the doctors have gone on strike today after waiting for the resolution of the demands. Government employees at PHCs, CHCs, district hospitals, six medical colleges, and nine Gujrat Medical Education and Research Society colleges are all on strike from today.

Given the strike, patients were seen queuing in the government hospitals because of the dearth of doctors with most of them not working being on strike. Some residents doctors were asked to serve at civil hospitals, but the patients had to experience a long waiting time before getting proper treatment.
